Intentions
I have no formal artistic training. I audited one art class in college and a friend gave me some private lessons, but other than that I am self taught. But I really do feel that I have a pretty good understanding of art and color theory, composition, technique. We live in a remarkable time, that there is a wealth of information and instruction available at the click of the mouse.
But in my quest to become a self-taught designer, I feel there are still some things missing that would make learning a lot easier. One thing that I want to contribute to the design world is by offering design process videos. While there are videos available for illustration or digital art, the start to finish process of creating a repeating pattern has been a bit more difficult to find outside of simple patterns meant to help illustrate the process of creating designs in Illustrator or Procreate rather than the actual composition and production of the design. Does that make sense? One thing that would be incredibly helpful to me is to see the process from start to finish, from sketch to finished pattern. I have spent a lot of time studying my fabric collection, looking at how they were shaded, how they were composed, where the repeats are. But finding working designers talking through the process has been much more difficult, if not impossible, to find. So while I am not a working designer (yet!), I want to capture my process, to help others and to document my own progress.
Additionally I want to catalogue my experiences for you, whoever you may be. Maybe by sharing my processes and experiences then you might have a roadmap to take, or a list to work off of, or just a journey to invest in. So that’s what you can expect from me, this blog, and my YouTube channel. Tips, tricks, resources and the like - I’ll share it here.
